- Julho é de Jazz: Mary Halvorson Amaryllis Sextet
About GhostsA key figure in New York's experimental scene, guitarist Mary Halvorson returns with her project Amaryllis Sextet, at a time of creative renewal driven by the new album About Ghosts, released by Nonesuch Records in June 2025. In this concert as part of Julho é de Jazz, Halvorson presents compositions that expand the sextet's already unique universe, now enriched with a new timbral palette, including the introduction of two saxophones and subtle layers of Pocket Piano synthesizer.
Considered one of the most innovative guitarists of her generation and a McArthur Foundation award-winner, Mary Halvorson has collaborated with several renowned musicians, including John Zorn, Bill Frisell and Robert Wyatt, consolidating her position at the forefront of modern jazz.
The Amaryllis Sextet - made up of Patricia Brennan (vibraphone), Nick Dunston (double bass), Tomas Fujiwara (drums), Jacob Garchik (trombone), Ingrid Laubrock (saxophone) and Halvorson herself on guitar - remains the creative core, but the composer challenges the very foundations of the project, adding harmonic density and new textures in a gesture of permanent reinvention.
