Birdly SerenadeThe David Murray Quartet brings a unique concert to Theatro Circo, where the richness and diversity of contemporary jazz is combined with the mastery of one of today's most influential saxophonists. David Murray, a key figure in modern jazz, winner of multiple awards such as the Grammy (1989), or the French Grand Prix du Disque (multiple years), stands out for his ability to fuse gospel, blues, soul, free jazz and Afro-Caribbean sounds, as well as for his innovative arrangements of the genre's great standards. His expressive timbre, keen sense of rhythm and innate talent for improvisation make him one of the most important voices in music today.
Accompanied by a trio of exceptional new generation musicians - Luke Stewart on double bass, Russell Carter on drums and Marta Sanchez on piano - Murray will perform compositions from his most recent work, Birdly Serenade, published by Verve/Impulse, and from Francesca, released in May 2024 on the Intakt label. Acclaimed by international critics, Francesca made the lists of the best albums of the year, according to publications such as Downbeat and Jazzwise, as well as reaching number two in the New York Times.
With this show, David Murray reaffirms the legacy of one of jazz's most respected interpreters, offering audiences an immersive musical experience, marked by the energy and sophistication that define his artistic career. An unmissable moment in this July of Jazz.Support Portuguese Republic - Culture / Directorate-General for the Arts. RTCP - Network of Portuguese Theatres and Cinemas
