Marco PaivaDirector Marco Paiva, with his company Terra Amarela, offers us, based on William Shakespeare, a Ricardo III in Portuguese and Spanish Sign Language, with a cast made up of interpreters from both countries and subtitled in Portuguese.
Richard III is a real propaganda document, which proves that a lie, repeated a thousand times, becomes an opportune truth. And this couldn't be a better mirror of our times: what seems to be, isn't. William Shakespeare offers us a character who is virtuous in speech, skillful in dissimulation and deeply amoral, who will try to tear down everything that stands between him and the place where his power is sublimated: the throne of England. Richard III is a game, and it is this very concept that is of interest in this rediscovery of the theatrical place as a place of astonishment, ensuring that those on stage are the opposite figure.
100 years from now, some author will write that this show never happened. It is the responsibility of every person who enters this room not to allow history to turn us into wind.
