CTB | Amor de Perdição - Camilo Castelo Branco

The Companhia de Teatro de Braga opens its 2024 season with one of Camilo Castelo Branco's best-known texts, Amor de Perdição. Written in 1861 while he was imprisoned in Porto's Relação jail, it became one of the most famous sentimental novels of Portuguese Romanticism. This work portrays the tragic story of the forbidden love between the characters Simão and Teresa. Set in Portugal in the 19th century, the text explores themes such as fate, overwhelming passion and social resistance. Amor de Perdição is moved by the 'tenacity of springtime affections turned into despair by wanting what you want and desiring what you cannot. A fearless stubbornness against everything and everyone for the affirmation of the will of the blood, that intravenous love that can only overflow into death.'

    Set design António Jorge
    Costumes Manuela Bronze
Teaching notebook Ana Cristina Oliveira, Céu Costa, José Barros and Paulo César
