Over the course of six annual sessions, we invite local, national and international ensembles and composers to guide us through the music of one of the most fertile periods in terms of new ideas and forms.
In the first session of this cycle, Theatro Circo welcomes the Pluris Ensemble for a performance of one of the most iconic works by French composer Olivier Messiaen, Quarteto para o Fim do Tempo. In 1940, when France surrendered to Germany, Olivier Messiaen was captured and sent to the Görlitz concentration camp in Lower Silesia (Germany). Despite all the deprivations, the musicians enjoyed a certain privilege, allowing the composer to keep his scores and continue composing together with other musicians held captive. It was in this context that Quarteto para o Fim do Tempo was born and performed for the first time in this concentration camp to an audience of German prisoners and soldiers of all ranks.Founded in Braga in 2022, the Pluris Ensemble is a platform for musical manifestation, where the eclectic and transversal exploration of music guides this living organism, which wants to be plural in creation, in the interpretation of different composers and even in the presentation format. The Pluris Ensemble is directed by Pedro Oliveira and Joaquim Pereira.
